The Fr. Mike McCaffery Chair in Pastoral Theology and Lecture Series
This endowed Chair Fund for Newman Theological College (NTC) was established 10 years ago by Harold and Cathy Roozen in honor of their close friend, Fr. Mike McCaffery. This Chair ensures that Pastoral Theology is taught at NTC, funding the costs of the professor teaching in this area of study.
Pastoral theology is concerned with bringing theology into practice, of integrating faith into action within the ordinary, but often complex, challenges of people’s lives.
Fr. Mike is well known and loved for his compassionate and pastoral approach to his priestly ministry. It is his conviction that Pastoral Theology is key for seminarians and lay ministers preparing to work in a parish. Fr. Mike taught courses in Pastoral Theology at NTC beginning in 1976. He also served as President of the college from 1979 to 1983.
The establishment and organization of a conversation (public forum) on a topic of relevance to the Catholic Church is also a part of the chair.
